Kindling makes learning games for children from what their grown-ups tell us they're studying. Because children use Kindling, we hold ourselves to the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and to a simple rule of our own: collect as little as possible, use it only to make your games, and never sell it.
Who has an account
Only adults create Kindling accounts. A parent or guardian signs up, then adds child profiles inside their account. Children don't have logins, email addresses or passwords, and the kid side of the app is reached only through a parent's device and account.
What we collect from grown-ups
- Your name, email address and password (stored hashed) to run your account.
- The learning materials you give us β typed notes, photos of worksheets and PDFs β and the games built from them.
- Subscription status from the App Store. We never see your full payment details.
- Basic technical data (app version, device type, crash reports) to keep the app working.
What we collect about children
- A child profile you create: a first name or nickname, age or grade, an avatar emoji, and any notes you choose to add (βmixes up b and dβ).
- Play activity: which games were played, answers and stars, so you can see progress and so Pip can bring back the tricky items.
We don't collect children's photos, voice recordings, precise location, contacts or advertising identifiers. Kids can't type messages to anyone, can't chat with AI, and can't follow links out of the app.
How we use it
- To build, narrate and show your family's games.
- To show you progress and weak spots for each child.
- To run, secure and improve Kindling.
We don't show ads, sell data, or build marketing profiles of children. We don't use your family's materials or your children's play data to train AI models.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run Kindling, under contracts that limit them to providing their service to us:
- Anthropic (Claude) reads the learning materials you upload and drafts games. Materials are sent for processing only, not for model training.
- ElevenLabs turns game text (like βPop the bubbles that say /s/β) into Pip's narration. Only game text is sent β never names or profile notes.
- Cloud hosting and database providers that store your account and games.
Parental rights and choices
You're in charge of your children's information. At any time you can:
- Review or edit a child's profile and see their play history in the app.
- Delete a child profile, which deletes that child's play history.
- Delete your account, which deletes everything associated with it within 30 days.
- Email privacy@kindling.app to ask what we hold, or to stop any further collection.
Retention
We keep your materials and games while your account is active so you can reuse them. Uploaded photos and PDFs can be removed individually. When an account is deleted, its data is erased from our systems within 30 days and from backups within 90.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest, access is limited to the few people who need it to run the service, and the parent area is protected by a grown-up gate on the device.
Changes
If we change how we handle children's information, we'll tell you by email and in the app before the change takes effect, and ask for consent again where the law requires it.
